Menu

Clay County School Nutrition Services offers balanced and nutritious breakfasts and lunches each day.  The menus are available on this web site for your review.  Menus may change due to product availability, weather conditions, or administrative decisions.

All menus must meet Federal nutritional requirements.  School Breakfast is designed to meet 1/4 of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA), and School Lunch meets 1/3 of the RDA.  When we create the menus, we analyze them for enough calories, protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C.  We also work hard to keep the total fat at or below 30% of the total calories and the saturated fat below 10% when averaged over a week, in keeping with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In addition, North Carolina law severely restricts trans fats.

"Offer vs. Serve" is the style of service for breakfast and lunch. This means that instead of just "serving" students a meal each day, we "offer" each student choices.  The meal choices are broken down into five "components".  These "components" are milk, fruit/vegetable, bread/grain, and meat/meat alternative.  (Two different menu items may be selected from the fruit/vegetable component for lunch).

With "Offer vs. Serve", students may decline one or two of the meal components if they are not going to eat all five.  AT LEAST 3 COMPONENTS must be selected to qualify as "a meal" (breakfast or lunch) at the student's meal price.  Students receiving free or reduced-price meals MUST  select "a meal", with three, four, or all five components.

Food AllergiesSome children have allergic reactions when they are exposed to or  consume a food to which they are allergic.  The reactions can be very serious and sometimes fatal.  Some of the foods that children are most commonly allergic to are peanuts, tree nuts (such as walnuts, pecans, almonds, brazil nuts, etc.), milk, soy, eggs, fish, shellfish, and gluten (found in wheat, barley, and rye, and  used as fillers for some processed meats and other processed foods).

It is important to see your physician if you suspect your child may have a food allergy.  If, in fact, your child does have a food allergy, contact the cafeteria manager to inform him of the food allergy. The cafeteria manager will work with you to find methods for avoiding contact and allergic reactions to the food or foods in question.  A physician's statement defining the allergy and specific foods to avoid is requested for our files.

If you are a student in Clay County Schools, here is your opportunity to make suggestions for your breakfast and lunch menu!  Keep in mind that not only do your menu ideas need to be healthy, but they must be affordable, and they also need to be foods that you think your fellow students will enjoy.
